I like the intensity here of dark plums, oyster shells, tar, dried flowers and chocolate. Rich and flavorful with a full body and

About the Winery
Piancornello is a winery born from the hard work of four generations of farmers, in a territory where Brunello, the village of Montalcino and a centuries-old history blend together. In 1950, Claudio Batazzis great grandfather Zefiro acquired the property of Piancornello, which consisted of a rural house dating back to the 1700s and the land surrounding it, and started to plant the first Brunello vineyards there. In the years that followed, Claudios parents, Alfeo and Silvana, continued to cultivate these vineyards. Living on their own land was, for them, an important value. Today, that tradition continues to live through Claudio, his wife Silvia and their two daughters.
Piancornello is located in the zone of Sesta, between SantAngelo in Colle and Castenuovo dellAbate, nestled on a plateau facing Val dOrcia and Mount Amiata on the horizon. It covers a surface of around 20 hectares in an area characterized by a Mediterranean climate, steep hills and stony, red clay-based soils. Such favorable conditions allow organic agriculture and the production of a genuine, elegant and generous Brunello di Montalcino that is inextricably bound to the territory where it is produced.
The family commenced bottling their own wines in the early 1990s and today produce around 50,000 bottles per year. In addition to their flagship Brunello di Montalcino, they make a Rosso di Montalcino, a Brunello Riserva (in exceptional years only), and an unusual wine called Per Emma (named after Claudio and Silvias elder daughter) made from 100% Ciliegiolo from 40 year old vines. The wines are vinified in concrete tanks exclusively with indigenous yeasts, and see 25 to 28 days skin maceration. As one of the original certified organic estates in Montalcino, Piancornello has always aimed to treat the land and the vines with the utmost respect for this and future generations.
