A juicy, cherry-, menthol- and tar- avored red, with a linear pro le and ne tension. Floral and mineral elements enter the fray as this builds to a long nish. Best from 2019 through 2033.~B.S.

"The 2011 Barbaresco Riserva Rabajà is quite backward today, with intense, salivating tannins that cut through the fruit. The trademark Rabajà balsamic flavor profile is there, with notable darkness and plenty of structure that add complexity to a core of crystalline fruit. Energetic and powerful, with searing tannin and exceptional balance, the Rabajà is going to require considerable patience. The only question is how much."~A.G.

"The 2011 Barbaresco Riserva Rabajà is a beautiful wine that hits all the right buttons. This wine opens to evident ripeness, but that abundant dark fruit is well contained within the larger framework of this wine. The Rabajà cru delivers dense and well-structured Nebbiolo grapes with firm tannins and broad, muscular appeal. This Riserva opens nicely in the glass and offers a generous stream of dark fruit and spice flavors. This wine is poised to shed some of that baby fat with time.
It's always a special year when the venerated Produttori del Barbaresco releases its set of Riserva Barbaresco wines from the best vineyard sites under their management. The 2011 vintage offers one of those unique opportunities to taste Nebbiolo from Asili, Montefico, Montestefano, Muncagota, Ovello, Rabajà and Rio Sordo. The Riservas were produced in 2009, but Produttori del Barbaresco opted not to make them in 2010. It was determined that 2010 did not have enough consistency for long aging and this decision was controversial, as you can image, given the general applause bestowed on that vintage. Thankfully, we get to enjoy 2011."-M.L.

Founded in 1958, the priest of the village of Barbaresco, recognizing that the only way small properties could survive was by joining their efforts, gathered together nineteen small growers and founded the Produttori del Barbaresco. From its humble beginnings making the first three vintages in the church basement, Produttori del Barbaresco has grown to a 52 member co-operative with 250 acres of Nebbiolo vineyards in the Barbaresco appellation and an annual production of over 500,000 bottles. Its vineyards amount to almost 1/6 of the vineyards of the area. Each member is in full control of their land, growing Nebbiolo grapes with the skill and dedication they have honed over generations.
Playing a key role in elevating the quality level of Barbaresco over the years, Produttori del Barbaresco produces a simpler Nebbiolo Langhe, a Barbaresco blend and nine single vineyard wines produced in premier vineyards: Asili, Rabajà, Pora, Montestefano, Ovello, Pajè, Montefico, Muncagota and Rio Sordo.
