"The limited production 2008 Zinfandel Monte Rosso Toreador (a 250-case blend of 92% Zinfandel and 8% Petite Sirah with a whopping 16.9% alcohol) saw more new French oak than American oak. A pedal-to-the-metal, full throttle Zin, this opaque ruby/purple-colored offering displays notes of blackberries, cassis, licorice, incense and Asian spices in its massive, full-bodied, bigger-than-life personality. This huge wine is brilliantly balanced and capable of lasting a decade or more, although these wines are generally best drunk in their boisterous youth."
"This is an Old Vine Zinfandel at its essence. The sophisticated Toreador captures the true varietal character of Monte Rosso Zinfandel with expressive flavors and intense aromas of black raspberry, plum jam and dark black cherry, surrounded by rich tannins and a peppery, clove spice that are supple on the palate. Hints of dark chocolate and nuances of vanilla and toasted coconut from the oak influence linger in a long and lasting finish. This elegantly concentrated Zinfandel can be enjoyed now, but will also age well over the next ten years. " ~ Winery notes
