Transit No. 1 red blend is sourced from famed regions of southern Australia, the Barossa Valley and McLaren Vale. Mostly Shiraz with a small amount of Cabernet Sauvignon, Transit 1 is bold yet nuanced, featuring scents of smoky meat, chocolate and wet soil. A hint of mint on the palate stems from native trees. Just like the Red Schooner Malbec from Argentina is known by the "voyage" that produced it, this wine is called a sequential "transit."
A dark, swirling purple, this wine has a wildness to match. Intense scents of smoky meat, chocolate and wet soil are layered with light wood and whiff of mint. The palate reveals a unique Australian character, featuring flavors of plum and more refreshing mint. Soft, dusty tannins give this wine a textural richness that enhances its aromas and flavors. On the finish, traces of brown spice add a final kick to lush fruit.-Winemaker Notes

Red Schooner started with appreciating good Malbec. We considered making this wine from vineyards in Napa Valley, but decided we should source the grapes from the place that is most widely recognized for having ideal conditions for this varietal. We found ourselves asking: Could we create a wine at Caymus Vineyards our family winery using fruit from another part of the world? That question inspired the idea for Red Schooner, a "Red Wine of the World" that is about the thrill of voyage and discovery.
This Malbec is made from grapes grown in the Andes Mountains of Argentina and shipped chilled to Napa Valley. We then produce the wine in our Caymus style dense, dark, powerful and supple. Falling outside standard labeling rules, Red Schooner has no vintage date, but instead is known by the voyage from which it has traveled. Charlie Wagner, Red Schooners director of winemaking, notes that he loves this wines lush softness as well as the spirit of experimentation that lies behind its creation.-Winery Notes
About Caymus Vineyards
Caymus Vineyards produces two Cabernets Sauvignons – a "Napa Valley" and the venerable "Special Selection". Both Cabernet bottlings have aromas and flavors which can only be achieved through "hang time" – a technique which chances the loss of crop if early winter sets in. Leaving the fruit to "hang" on the vine unusually long develops suppleness, increases color, and matures the tannins of the grapes. The wines are abundant in textural tannins yet soft as velvet. Crop thinning, allowing measured sunlight to reach the vine's fruit zone, and waiting for increased ripeness are all part of our viticultural practices. Caymus Cabernets offer a wide array of aromas and flavors including cocoa, cassis and vanilla.

Caymus Special Selection is the flagship wine of the Wagner family and is comprised of the very best barrels of the vintage. This wine is not produced in difficult years. Caymus Napa Valley is more representative of a standard Cabernet of Napa Valley, as it is a bit less precocious than the Special Selection, but still delivers big. Caymus prides itself on producing wines that are as approachable in youth as well at maturity. Both the "Napa Valley" and "Special Selection" Cabernets are produced under the winemaking hand of Chuck Wagner.
