In 1982, the growers of the Robola zone founded the Robola Cooperative of Cephalonia, which is currently comprised of 300 members. Armed with experience and knowledge, this was done in an effort to ensure their income, as well as protect and highlight the potential of the Cephalonia region.
The first harvest took place in 1983. In 1987, the Cooperative acquired its own winery, which is located in the center of the Robola Zone. It sits at an altitude of 410 meters, just below the slopes of Mount Ainos and beside the Monastery of Saint Gerassimo, patron Saint of the Island.
The families of the Cooperatives members individually own all the vineyards as the hardy, mountainous vineyards of the Omala Valley require patience and hands-on cultivation methods in order to provide a successful harvest. The impressive winery building is situated in the valley and rests in absolute harmony with the surrounding, stunning landscape. The Robola Cooperative of Cephalonia is very proud to be able to handle some of the noblest Greek grape varieties and aims to produce wines that reflect their uniqueness, especially that of the Robola variety.
