Item Description

" Perched along the ridge top at the upper reaches of High Valley, Shannon Ridge overlooks Clear Lake and Mt. Konocti. Two buds per spur, hence the vineyard designation Two Bud. The unique combination of soil composition and micro climate of a singular plot of ground (terroir) is the genesis of the distinctive character of our Single Vineyard Collection wines.

The Shannon Ridge 2012 "Home Ranch-Two Bud Block" Zinfandel is a dark garnet and ruby color. It has aromas of ripe plum, cherry, raspberry and spice notes with sweet vanilla. The flavors include ripe raspberry jam, dark cherry and mocha notes, with hints of mocha powder. It is complex, well balanced and has a long and lingering finish. " ~Winery notes

wner and visionary leader of Shannon Ridge Family of Wines, Clay Shannon has transformed his ranch into one of the agricultural icons of California's North Coast, and in doing so is changing the face and substance of grape-growing in the USA.

Clay grew up on a farm in Healdsburg in Sonoma County. He began his career as a vineyard manager in St. Helena, traveling the wine regions of California managing the company's vineyards. A short time later he started his own vineyard management company, growing grapes for some of the top wineries and fruit companies in Northern California.

In 1995, Clay discovered a magnificent piece of property in the hills overlooking Clear Lake in Lake County, thirty-five miles north of Napa's famed vineyards. He quickly set out to develop vineyards, Clay's vision was simple: "We wanted to grow the best fruit in the world," says Clay, "but we wanted to do it in a way that made us happy living there."

EMPIRE STAFF REVIEW

"This single vineyard zin has a rich, beautiful maroon color. Sweet tobacco and fresh leather shine through raspberry and blueberry jam on the nose with hints of spice in the background. The entry is fruity and spicy and transitions into a smooth, meaty finish. This bottle goes great with smoked gouda, barbecue pork, or a good book."
