Soter 'Mineral Springs Ranch' Pinot Noir 2016

"Glistening magenta. Displays expansive, spice- and mineral-accented red/dark berry preserve scents that take on incense and lavender flourishes with air. Juicy, seamless and energetic on the palate, offering densely packed black raspberry, cherry liqueur and exotic spice flavors that show sharp delineation and back-end thrust. Finishes impressively long and smooth, with resonating red fruit, floral notes and velvety, harmonious tannins that make a cameo appearance. -- Josh Raynolds"

"This has a very plush, sappy and deep-set style with plenty of attractive, ripe red-cherry aromas, leading to a fleshy and really encompassing red-fruit and fine-tannin core. Drink now."

Wine Advocate 92+
"The 2016 Pinot Noir Mineral Springs Ranch is pale to medium ruby-purple in color with a youthfully reticent nose of pulverized stone, delicate blue flower, dried leaves, cola and black fruits. Light to medium-bodied and still tightly coiled in the mouth, with a strong vein of crushed rock minerality, its just beginning to give up some ripe black fruits and spicy accents with firm, fine-grained tannins and plenty of freshness, finishing very long and minerally with lots of nerve. Give this a year or two in bottle or consider a decant."

The Wine
Mineral Springs Vineyard consists of 34 acres of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay situated along the ridgeline of the greater property of 240 acres we call Mineral Springs Ranch (MSR). This is a privileged location in the world for Willamette Valley Pinot Noir. The right elevation, aspect, row orientation, ventilation and uniquely well-drained soils derived from marine sedimentary sandstone all contribute to consistently great results. Remaining acreage is committed to a diverse and inspired set of uses such as fir forest, oak woodland preservation, orchards, an heirloom vegetable farm, organic grain cultivation, and grazing lands. Michelle Soters vision is the Ranch produce more than just wine-that it act as a source of food for employees, guests and local charities. The Soters believe elevating the vine only serves to highlight the land that nurtures us all.

The Estate
In the mid-1980s, Tony Soter began working as a consulting winemaker in the Napa Valley, assisting luminaries such as Araujo, Niebaum-Coppola, Shafer, Spottswoode, Viader and Dalla Valle. In 1982, he established his own winery Etude where he focused on Pinot Noir and Cabernet Sauvignon of noteworthy caliber and artisan focus. After years of mentoring and encouraging some of Napa Valleys most respected growers and winemakers, he ended his consulting roles to focus exclusively on Soter Vineyards and his family in the Willamette Valley of Oregon. The Soters sole Estate vineyard today, Mineral Springs Ranch, is a 240-acre savanna-like oak woodland and grazing land located in the Yamhill-Carlton AVA. It is the home to 30 acres of Pinot Noir originally planted in 2002. Two acres of Chardonnay were included in the 2006 plantings and are devoted entirely to method champenoise sparkling wine production. Located just east of the town of Carlton, the ranch is perched on a mesa with gentle slopes and commanding views of the surrounding Yamhill-Carlton District. Our production facilities and hospitality buildings are here as well, allowing us complete control of all operations.
