"This earns the Classic' designation with a spot-on mix of blueberry and purple fruit that fill the palate. Those fresh flavors are bounced up with well-matched acids and lightly earthy tannins, along with hints of cedar from aging in 10 new oak."

"Supple and expressive, with elegantly structured raspberry and cherry flavors that gather appealing layers of clove and spice tea. Drink now through 2028. 7,647 cases made.T.F."

"North Valley refers to the cluster of AVAs that are responsible for the major part of quality pinot production in the Willamette Valley. A very attractive pinot for the depth and volume of rich cherries. The palate has sweet cherry flavor and succulent tannin chew. Drink now."
"This Pinot Noir exhibits charming aromas of bright red fruits, with baking spices and underbrush. The nose is bright and high toned - very expressive. Medium bodied on the palate with a darker fruit profile, the wine is sleek and silky in texture. Additional notes of black mission figs and plums emerge, with some anise, black pepper and a little forest floor note. In the finish, the wine reveals clove and hints of espresso. Soft, youthful tannins are nicely balanced with acidity, and the wine is quite seamless."
"Aromas of ripe, dark fruits like blackberry and black cherry dominate, with both floral (violets) and earthy elements, baking spice, and traces of earth and char-like wood smoke. Bright on entry, with ample presence and drive. Flavors of blackberry and plum dominate with a hint of sage and brown butter, and a sanguine quality of roasted meat on a broad framework. Fruit, freshness and mineral persist nicely with good grip and texture from the fine tannins."
The Willamette Valley of Oregon stretches nearly 160 miles from the Columbia River Gorge down to the Eugene area - a large, diverse scope. However, it is in the North Valley of this region that all of the recognized sub-appellations are clustered - where the finest Cru quality vineyard sites are located. We explore the considerable diversity of this region by focusing on engaged partnerships with farmers committed to certified, sustainable farming practices, with the goal of producing outstanding wines that reflect distinctive personality and style.
It is from the rolling hillsides and diverse soils of the North Valley that veteran winegrowers James Cahill and Tony Soter, along with North Valley partners, Brian Sypher and Michelle Soter, source certified sustainable vineyards of real "Cru" quality for these personality-driven wines. Meticulous, hands-on attention to farming practices throughout the growing season from flowering through harvest, and minimal handling in the winery, assures a resulting level of quality normally associated exclusively with estate grown wines - in fact, we think of each vineyard site we work with as if it were a "satellite estate property", as a statement of our genuine commitment to making the best wines that we can.

Soter VineyardsView all from Soter Vineyards
In the mid-1980s, Tony Soter began working as a consulting winemaker in the Napa Valley, assisting luminaries such as Araujo, Niebaum-Coppola, Shafer, Spottswoode, Viader and Dalla Valle. In 1982, he established his own winery – Etude – where he focused on Pinot Noir and Cabernet Sauvignon of noteworthy caliber and artisan focus. After years of mentoring and encouraging some of Napa Valley's most respected growers and winemakers, he ended his consulting roles to focus exclusively on Soter Vineyards and his family in the Willamette Valley of Oregon. The Soter's sole Estate vineyard today, Mineral Springs Ranch, is a 240-acre savanna-like oak woodland and grazing land located in the Yamhill-Carlton AVA. It is the home to 30 acres of Pinot Noir originally planted in 2002. Two acres of Chardonnay were included in the 2006 plantings and are devoted entirely to method champenoise sparkling wine production. Located just east of the town of Carlton, the ranch is perched on a mesa with gentle slopes and commanding views of the surrounding Yamhill-Carlton District. Our production facilities and hospitality buildings are here as well, allowing us complete control of all operations.
