"Niepoort has already released two vintages of a Baga from Bairrada, but others can use the category as long as they follow the rules. Suertes del Marqués employs Luis Seabra, who used to work for Niepoort, as a consultant, and they are the first winery from Spain to release such wine. The 2017 Suertes Cool is pure Listán Negro from one single vineyard, La Mocana, which was planted over a century ago and pruned in "cordon trenzado." It fermented with 20% full clusters in concrete vats, where it was kept for 11 months until bottling. It has the spicy, peppery and volcanic character of the grape and the place, plus the lightness of the Nat'Cool wines, like a lighter 7 Fuentes, keeping the character but with less alcohol and more approachable. It's easy to drink. It's only 11.5% alcohol. 3,100 bottles were filled in December 2018. The price given is for one liter."
"Nat Cool is the brain child of Dirk Niepoort. He created Nat Cool as a response to a market (both in Portugal and abroad) that wanted fun, easy going, Naturally-made wines that could be enjoyed every day - at home, by-the-glass in restaurants, out on a fun picnic, etc. Dirk’s goal is to expand the Nat Cool spirit to other producers as well. First on the docket...Nat Cool Suertes Cool, from Jonatan Lima Garcia of Suertes del Marques in the Canary Islands, the rockstar producer from the island of Tenerife! 100% Listan Negro farmed organically from the Valle de la Oratava. Naturally joyous and juicy, and of course in One-Liter bottles! The grapes are destemmed and fermented with native yeasts in concrete. The wine ages for a period in concrete before bottling unfined and unfiltered."~Distributor Notes
