Wine Enthusiast 93
Elegant aromas of purple flower, rose petal, raspberry and asphalt show on the nose of this of blend of 37% Syrah, 35% Grenache, 23% Mourvdre and 5% Counoise. It's bright and floral on the palate, with rose tea and red currant flavors.
"A vibrant nose of blackberry and bramble, teriyaki and black pepper. On the palate, brilliantly juicy, with flavors of elderberry, graphite, tangy plum skin and loamy earth. The long, gently tannic finish lingers with crunchy black fruit and foresty spice. Delicious now, but with the substance and balance to age for up to a decade."-Winery Notes
"Tablas Creek is a pioneer of Californias Rhone movement. Founded in 1989, it is the culmination of a friendship between two of the international wine communitys leading families dating back to 1967: the Perrin family of Chateau de Beaucastel and the Haas family of Vineyard Brands. After a four-year search, the partners chose Paso Robles, California for its many similarities to the Southern Rhone and began the lengthy process of importing vine cuttings, building a grapevine nursery, and creating an estate vineyard from the ground up. Today, the vineyards at Tablas Creek are proudly Biodynamic and organic certified by Demeter USA."-Winery Notes

The Perrins of Chateau de Beaucastel and Robert Haas, their importer since 1970, founded Tablas Creek Vineyard in 1990. They chose their 1600-foot elevation site in West Paso Robles' Las Tablas because of its chalky clay soils and its climate similar to the southern Rhone Valley. They imported selected French cuttings of Mourvedre, Grenache, Syrah and Counoise and multiplied, grafted and planted their own vines, which they farm organically. This blended wine, in the image of Chateauneuf-du-Pape, is 100% estate-grown and bottled.
"I normally go for bolder and heavier Zins or Cabs but this was a nice change."
