The lovely 2019 Alto Adige Terlaner Cuve is fresh and buoyant with citrusy notes that are followed by wild sage, crushed stone, spicy saffron, toasted pine nut, Golden Delicious apple and crispy pear. The cuve is a blend of 60 Pinot Bianco, 30 Chardonnay and 10 Sauvignon Blanc, and the results are only partially aged in oak (about 20) to add a little extra dimension and texture. The wine underlines its primary fruit and the youthful intensity that is achieved with the 2019 vintage. Salty mineral notes appear on the close. You get terrific value here. -ML

The 2019 Cuve Terlaner makes for a great introduction to the Cantina Terlano portfolio. Its a blend of 60 Pinot Bianco, 30 Chardonnay and 10 Sauvignon Blanc, which mixes salty, savory notes with penetrating yellow citrus, balanced by fresh florals and hints of ripe crushed apple. While theres no shortage of tension here, the Cuve Terlaner manages to come across as round and pliant, buzzing with energy while cooling and soothing the senses. Orange zest and a note of roasted almond lingers, making for a complete and truly satisfying experience. -EG

A composition of Terlano's three most traditional white varieties, Pinot Bianco, Chardonnay and Sauvignon, this ancient cuve, which was one of the wines produced when the winery was founded, is an extremely complex wine. Starting with the 2013 vintage, this expressive blend has been elevated by using grapes from vineyards that were previously withheld for the Vorberg, Kreuth and Winkl production. The Terlaner Classico is now a vineyard line wine and is therefore filled in the Sebastianina bottle, paying tribute to the uniqueness of the cuvee and its awardwinning quality. Vinification includes gentle whole cluster pressing and clarification of the must by natural sedimentation. Slow fermentation in stainless steel tanks at controlled temperatures is followed by aging on the lees, also in steel tanks, for 5-7 months, with blending one month before bottling.

Founded in 1893, Cantina Terlano has grown into one of the leading wine growers' cooperatives in the Alto Adige region of northeastern Italy. Located in the Dolomite Mountains in the foothills of the Alps, Terlano's distinctive location and extraordinary terroir are key to the development of their stunning wines. Situated in a sheltered hollow, Terlano benefits from an ideal southfacing exposure. Vineyard slopes ranging from 250m-900m ASL provide perfect conditions for the cultivation of grapes, especially Lagrein, a variety that is indigenous to the Alto Adige region. Vineyards composed of red porphyric rocks with high mineral content accumulate and retain the day's warmth, while the porous soil allows the water to drain, keeping the soil dry around the roots of the vines. These factors, combined with the cool evening temperatures, create wines of incredibly depth and potentially for aging. With a current membership of 143 growers farming a total area of 165 hectares, Terlano insures the highest standards of quality by compensating growers for the quality of their grapes not the quantity. In the vineyards, the emphasis is on reducing yield in favor of producing more concentrated fruit.

Terlano produces 30 percent red and 70 percent white wines, all of them of DOC quality designation. Following a winery renovation in 2009, the cellars now include a total of 18,000m of storage space, which ensures that the wines can develop undisturbed.
About Cantina Terlano
Winery
Founded in 1893, the Cantina Terlano winery is now one of the leading wine growers' cooperatives in South Tyrol, with a current membership of 143 growers working a total area of 170 hectares. That is the equivalent of some 1.5 million bottles of wine a year. We and our members have long had a strong focus on quality. That has attracted praise and recognition on the Italian and international wine markets, and in spite of its relatively small size, Cantina Terlano is now well established in the world of wine.

Our modern winery produces 30 percent red and 70 percent white wines, all of them of DOC quality (Controlled Designation of Origin). Following the last upgrade and refurbishment in 2009, our cellars now include a total of 18,000 cubic meters of storage space, which ensures that the wines can develop undisturbed. On the outside, the new tract has a natural facing of red porphyry, the stone that gives the wines in the area their typical character. The roof is planted with vines so that it blends in completely with the surrounding countryside.

Our wines are marketed in two distinct quality lines: Selections and traditional line. An annual rarity is also produced, which only comes on the market after it has spent at least ten years maturing in our cellars. That makes it a fine symbol of our focus on longevity.

Organizational structure

Cantina Terlano is a cooperative, with Georg Eyrl as Chairman and Hansjörg Hafner as his deputy.
