"Plenty of cedar, dark-chocolate and coffee character, but the dried strawberry and cherry character shows through. The tannins are quite pointed but soft and silky, just as the red fruit is quite elegant. A very interesting mix of Riojan craftsmanship and Burgundy style. Drink now."

The Wine
Finca Martelo, a new pinnacle in the expression of this Alavesa estate, hails from the oldest vines and is comprised of 95 Tempranillo with the rest in Mazuelo, Garnacha and Viura, all hand-selected by winemaker Julio Senz. After a long, slow malolactic the wine goes into 80 American and 20 French oak barrels for two years.
