Supple, rich and harmonious, the 2019 Lily's Garden Shiraz is drinking beautifully already. Hints of eucalyptus and sage add interest to the mixed-berry fruit, while the medium to full-bodied palate is almost creamy in texture, finishing long and luxuriously silky. Delivers maraschino cherry, raspberry coulis, Earl Grey tea and hints of custard on a rich and juicy frame, with accents of dark chocolate, dried herbs, palo santo and tobacco that linger on a long, expressive finish. Drink now through 2038. 600 cases imported.MaryAnn Worobiec, Wine Spectator (Mar 2022)

Deep crimson, red with a bright and vibrant core. Vibrant notes of blueberry pie and short crust pastry, vanilla, white chocolate, white pepper, and dried flowers. Blue fruited accents, with blueberry and plum reduction. Quite high toned and vibrant, yet the palate is broad and loose knit, providing a soft and cuddly fruit expression. Tannins start early and are also loose knit making the wine quite accessible in its youth. Oak is well woven in the wine providing notes of pie crust, vanilla bean and white chocolate.-Winemaker Notes

The idea for Two Hands was born in September 1999 when founders Michael Twelftree and Richard Mintz sat at a friends engagement party and decided it was time to make their own wine and market it on the world stage.
The original aim was, and still is, to make the best possible Shiraz-based wines from prized growing regions throughout Australia. With so much Australian wine being sold around the globe under multi-region labels in a formulaic style, the intention was to break the mold and showcase the diversity of Australian Shiraz by highlighting regional and vineyard characteristics by allowing the fruit to be the primary feature of the wines.
Quality without compromise is central to the Two Hands philosophy, driving all the decisions from fruit and oak selection to packaging and promotion. From the outset, Two Hands set out to be unique and innovative, this approach is reflected in everything from the names of the wines through to, not least, the wines themselves. From small beginnings, the winery has been able to manage its growth organically whilst maintaining an absolute quality focus. Premium fruit is sourced from the finest Shiraz growing regions in Australia, and Two Hands works closely with its estate vineyards and band of growers to ensure the full potential of each vineyard is reached. They handle every parcel of fruit, however small, separately from crushing through to fermentation and oak maturation to ensure complexity and personality in the finished wines.
In its simplest form, it could be said that they squeeze the grapes and put them in a bottle. However, in practice there are many different steps and countless hours involved, from vineyard, through to winemaking, tasting, blending and maturation in order to make consistent, quality wines.-Winery Notes
About Two Hands Wines
The original aim was, and still is, to make the best possible Shiraz-based wines from prized growing regions throughout Australia. With so much Australian wine being sold around the globe under multi-region labels in a formulaic style, the intention was to break the mould and showcase the diversity of Australian Shiraz by highlighting regional and vineyard characteristics by allowing the fruit to be the primary feature of the wines.

Two Hands' first vintage was in 2000, after a modest $30k investment and starting with just 17 tonnes of fruit. The journey had started.

Michael's wine contacts in the US and UK helped launch the brand and favourable critical reaction put Two Hands in the spotlight soon after. The early success helped Two Hands gradually increase production and venture out to launch the full Garden Series with the 2003 vintage, something truly unique in Australia. Gnarly Dudes joined its stablemate Angels' Share in the Picture Series, and the portfolio was starting to take shape. Later that year, Michael was driving down a dusty track in the Western Ranges of the Barossa Valley and first saw the run down uninhabited cottage next to the Marananga Creek that was to become the home of Two Hands – Kraehe House. Michael's vision was to reflect the Barossa heritage with the sandstone frontage and verandah, but create something modern and luxurious on the inside: the Cellar Door and Bakehouse opened in December 2003 just in time for Christmas and turned local hospitality on its head – anyone could walk in and taste Flagship Shiraz Ares, no matter where they were from or if they had money to spend.
