"Andrea Cortonesi's Rapace blends Sangiovese with Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. There's a lot of action in the nose with layers of sugar beet, chopped herbs, coffee-vanilla, cola, medicinal qualities and cherry preserves. It wins high marks for its mouthfeel, too, which is well structured."
James Suckling 91
"The nose here has some nice layers to it with sour cherries, some herbs, almonds and roses. Medium to full body, fine tannins and a delicious, dried-fruit finish. Drink now and enjoy. Publish Date: Monday, August 28, 2017"
"Andrea Cortonesi’s biggest competition these days is oddly enough from himself! The Uccelliera wines are as good as they’ve ever been, but it is impossible not to compare them with the wines Cortonesi makes under the Voliero label. Uccelliera is located in Castelnuovo dell’Abate, in the southern part of Montalcino, where the terroirs yield big, dramatic Rossi and Brunelli. Cortonesi describes 2007 as an overall warmer year than 2006.
VARIETY: 70% Sangiovese selected from Montalcino, 20 % Merlot
10 % Cabernet Sauvignon
PRODUCTION AREA: Vineyards in Castelnuovo dell'Abate, at elevations of 150-350 meters on well-exposed hill slopes south-east of Montalcino
CHARACTERISTICS: Rich, complex and powerful, but clean and smooth at the same time, with prominent but fine-grained tannins, and a dynamic, rising, long-lingering finish
AGEING: Maturation in small French oak barrels for a minimum of 18 months. Bottle ageing for a minimum of 6 months before released for sale. " ~ Winery notes
