"Such beautiful aromas of blackberries and minerals with chalk and salt. It’s medium-bodied with fine, integrated tannins and a pretty finish. Refined, silky texture. Drink or hold" ~ JS
Vaglio is the personal project of José Lovaglio Balbo, son of Argentine wine pioneer Susanna Balbo. He is one of the head winemakers at her winery, Dominio del Plata, in Lujan de Cuyo, but with Vaglio, which he owns and operates independently from his family's winery, José aims to showcase the different microclimates of northern Mendoza through terroir-driven wines.
The 2019 Aggie is 100% Malbec from Capataz, a 52-acre vineyard planted in 2008 at 3,800 feet altitude in Gualtallary in the Uco Valley. The soils are calcareous, stony soils of alluvial origin; the vines are farmed sustainably.
The fruit is destemmed, then vinified with native yeasts over 40 days. Aged for 8 months, 40% in new French oak.
