"abels and wines seem to come and go easily at Maitia, and this time I tried the new 2019 Roto that is mostly Cabernet Sauvignon from young vines planted in 2012 in Loncomilla in Maule, with 10 Syrah and 5 Alicante Bouschet. It fermented and matured in concrete and has a moderate 13 alcohol. It feels extremely primary and young, almost like fermenting grape juice. Well, it's fermented grape juice after all! It's a rush of fruit and has a juicy texture. It's simple, raw, naked, pure, satisfying and very good for what it is. 30,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in November 2019."

The Wine
A blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah and Alicante Bouschet from sustainably farmed vineyards sites in the Maule Valley. Winemaker David Marcel arrived to Chile fresh off the boat from France after graduating from university and never looked back. Fermented with native yeast and aged in a mixture of concrete and used oak.

The Estate
Frenchman David Marcel is the producer and winemaker of Via Maitia with his Chilean wife Loreto in the Maule Valley of Chile. Marcel comes from the French Basque Country and has been involved with wine in Chile for a long time. He was one of the first winemakers in Chile to succeed in the production of quality, craft Pipeo starting with the 2013 vintage, and a Carignan called Weon starting in 2016. The combination of the traditional production method and the traditional grape varieties lead to a very unique, herbal, and quaffable wines that are incredible values. Aupa!
