"The superb 2019 Eggo Tinto de Tiza is one of the bargains here. It's a showy, aromatic and elegant Malbec with ripeness, floral aromas, great precision, very fine tannins, very tasty flavors and an almost salty finish. "The superb 2019 Eggo Tinto de Tiza is one of the bargains here. It's a showy, aromatic and elegant Malbec with ripeness, floral aromas, great precision, very fine tannins, very tasty flavors and an almost salty finish. This range matures exclusively in concrete egg. It comes from a very complete and cooler year (cooler than 2018). It opens up nicely in the glass. This is accessible now but should also mature in bottle, as it has the components and the balance between them. This has the wilderness from the Malbecs from Gualtallary and the Michelini twist. This is affordable and should be readily available, as they produced 35,000 bottles. It was bottled in February 2020 after 11 months in egg. I had the chance to taste the first vintage of this wine, 2012, when it also had some Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc, and the wine, despite being from a different oenological era, is still young and lively."

"The 2019 Malbec EGGO Tinto de Tiza hails from chalky soils in Gualtallary, Uco Valley and spent ten months in concrete eggs. Purple with a murky sheen. The reductive, herbal nose delivers ash, hints of blood, mountain herbs and blackcurrant notes. The palate is dry, chalky and lean. The wine's medium body and juicy mouthfeel establish a compact flow and austere palate. The 2019 is a modern, high-altitude Malbec. -- Joaqun Hidalgo"

James Suckling 92
"A beautiful, fresh malbec that shows dark-berry fruit and a crushed-stone undertone. Medium-bodied with a creamy texture and a fruity finish with just the right amount of tension. Fun and delicious. Drink now."

Tasting Notes
Colour: intense red color, deep, with touches of violet.
Aroma: deep, intense and complex, with the aromas typical of Gualtallay, such as chalk, wet cement and minerals.
Flavour: with great structure and volume and a silky body with textured tannins, the acidity gives plenty of freshness, making it a very direct wine.

The Estate
Zorzal is a young, boutique winery that began in 2007 by the Michelini brothers, Gerardo, Matias, and Juan Pablo (Juampi), and their first vintage in 2008. The winery and vineyards are located in a section of the Uco Valley called Gualtallary (Gualta), outside the town of Tupungato, at approximately 4,500 feet above sea level. The Zorzal winery is the highest winery in Mendoza. The estate consists of 70 hectares on a unique blend of sand, stones, and limestone and is planted to multiple varieties including Malbec, Pinot Noir, Sauvignon Blanc, and a few others. The grapes are all hand harvested and Juampis vision is to have a light hand in the winemaking to let the fruit and terroir shine. The winery practices organic methods in the vineyards and uses only indigenous yeast in the winemaking process.

Zorzal tends to pick its grapes a little earlier than most in Mendoza to retain freshness and acidity in their wines instead of the overblown ripeness that is too often seen. They are already considered to be a rising star in Argentina with their focused wines and enticing expression of multiple varieties above and beyond their stunning Malbecs. They also make a series of wines called EGGO, consisting of Malbec, Cabernet Franc, Sauvignon Blanc, and Pinot Noir completely fermented and aged in large concrete eggs. The EGGO wines are more limited in production.
