Chateau Saint Cosme

In the heart of the appellation Gigondas, the Château de Saint Cosme is an exceptional estate, with its Gallo-Roman fermentation vats perfectly preserved. This fantastic historical site gives a good idea how our ancesters the gallo-romans were living. The property has been in our family since 1490 and we have been vignerons for 14 generations. We have 15 has of old vines (average 60 years old) with a yield of around 27Hos/Ha. The terroir is apparently homogeneous but it's actually geologically very diverse as the Dentelles de Montmirail makes it very complicated. Saint Cosme is exceptionally located at the crossing of two geological faults, which is very rare. This gives us an extraordinary diversity of soils. Our microclimate is cool and late ripening. Our Gigondas have the ability to be powerful and refined at the same time. The Saint Cosme's Chapel, located in the heart of our vineyard is a pure example of roman art. It was
built at the XI and XII century. Purity, balance and beauty: the Chapel is a witness of the medieval times and it gives an intense and special atmosphere to our vineyard.
Everyone should take five minutes to climb the little hill and visit it.

Chateau St Cosme Cote Rotie 2016
The wheatear featured on our label comes from an 18th century Provencal book on ornithology that my father gave me. He was extremely passionate about birds and believed that their ubiquity in the tiny valley of Saint Cosme was crucial both for biodiversity and organic wine growing. Ever the pioneer,

Chateau St Cosme Crozes Hermitage 2016
In Crozes-Hermitage is the word ‘Hermitage’ and for good reason. In the extraordinary hillsides around the villages of Crozes, Larnage, Gervans and Erôme lie vineyard sites that for wine growers who love their job are absolute gems. In Tenay, Habrard and Batits, old vines have the ability to produce

Chateau St Cosme St Joseph Rouge 2016
Saint Joseph is probably the one Rhone Valley appellation that deserves much more recognition. Firstly because it can produce top-flight wines, but also because every one of its terroirs is wonderful. It is a great irony that the ‘longest’ appellation (all 50km of it!) in the Rhone Valley is also

Jeb Dunnuck 90-92  Looking first at the base 2016 Gigondas, it’s certainly going to be another outstanding wine from Barruol. Based on 70% Grenache and the rest close to an even split of Syrah and Mourvèdre, it offers classic St Cosme notes of dark fruits, tapenade, pepper and smoked earth. It has

Chateau St Cosme Chateauneuf du Pape 2012
93  Wine Advocate
Wine Advocate 91-93"Tasted out of barrel, theis offers serious minerality in its black and blue fruits, licorice and violet-tinged personality. Inky colored, full-bodied and beautifully rich, it should come together nicely in bottle and have 10-15 years of longevity."

Wine Spectator 89  "This has lots of pepper, bay and dried star anise flavors out front, followed by a good bramble-edged core of plum and blackberry fruit. The juicy, open finish has ample depth, and this should integrate with a touch more cellaring; the herbaceous notes may still be a bit much

Chateau St Cosme Cote Rotie 2009
