Domaine Grand Veneur Estate

The Domaine was founded by Mathieu Jaume in 1826. Alain Jaume now runs the Domaine with the help of his two sons Sébastien and Christophe. The estate is located in the commune of Orange and consists of 75 hectares. It covers four different appellations: Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Côtes-du-Rhône Villages, Côtes-du-Rhône and Lirac. As of 2012 the estate is certified organic. "Grand Veneur is one of the most brilliant estates in Chateauneuf du Pape as well as the force behind the negociant wines sold under the Alain Jaume label. Virtually everything they produce has merit. I can't say enough about the job Alain Jaume's two sons, Sebastian and Christophe, have done with this estate. The impeccable attention to detail in the vineyards, the meticulous vinification, and the careful bottling benefit every consumer." ~ Robert Parker

Wine Advocate 90-92 "Deeper in color than the Cotes du Rhone Reserve, the 2015 Cotes du Rhone les Champauvins is a solid step up, with fabulously complex notes of Bing cherry, blueberries, raspberries, spring flowers and pepper all emerging from the glass. Medium to full-bodied, rich and

Wine Advocate 97 "The 2012 Châteauneuf du Pape Vieilles Vignes is in the top 2-3 wines in the vintage. Possessing rock-star concentration and depth, full-bodied richness and loads of sweet tannin, it offers layers of ripe blackberry, graphite, licorice and toasted-spice aromas and flavors. One of

Wine Advocate 89 " Along the same lines, yet slightly richer, the Alain Jaume 2012 Cotes du Rhone Reserve gives up more dark fruit, graphite and earthy notes to go with a medium-bodied, rich and beautifully textured feel on the palate. It, too, should dish out plenty of pleasure over the coming

Wine Advocate 87  "The estate's finest Cotes du Rhone is the 2011 Les Champauvins. It is a more seriously endowed, bigger, richer, more intriguing effort than the other Cotes du Rhones."  "With impressive holdings in the northern sector of Chateauneuf du Pape as well as an ever expanding, high

Domaine Grand Veneur Les Origines 2010

Wine Advocate 95 "Another blockbuster is the 2010 Chateauneuf du Pape Les Origines. A blend of 50% Grenache, 30% Syrah and 20% Mourvedre (45- to-95-year-old vines) aged in small oak, it exhibits an opaque purple color as well as a sweet bouquet of blackberries, espresso roast, ink and graphite.

92  Rhone Report
Wine Advocate 92 " The single-vineyard Cotes du Rhone, the 2010 Les Champauvins, is a smaller cuvee made largely from Grenache (70%) and the rest Syrah and Mourvedre. This is the poor person’s Chateauneuf du Pape, with notes of garrigue, lavender, black cherry jam, licorice, and a hint of blacker

Rhone Report 91 "Surpassing the excellent '09 by a fair bit, the inky colored 2010 Domaine Grand Veneur Cotes du Rhone Reserve, a blend of 70% Grenache, 20% Syrah, and 10% Cinsault, delivers textbook, classical aromas of black cherry and blackberry styled fruits that are intermixed with notions of

Robert Parker 89 "The 2009 Cotes du Rhone Reserve (an identical blend) is soft, ripe, peppery, fruity, opaque ruby in color, with a more narrow palate. While excellent, this racy, reasonably priced wine has to take a backseat to the brilliant 2010. Great bargains continue to emerge from Domaine

Robert Parker 90 "The outstanding 2007 Cotes du Rhone Reserve red (80% Grenache and 20% Syrah) is a killer bargain. A deep dark ruby color is followed by copious quantities of kirsch liqueur, forest floor, licorice, and pepper notes. The expansiveness on the palate, broad, velvety mouthfeel, and
